This section lists the names and designations that the ship had during its lifetime. The list is in chronological order.

    Transferred to the Republic of China April 3 1965
    Struck by the Taiwanese Navy and broken up for scrap (date unknown)

 

Naval Covers

Postmarks

This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each incarnation of the ship (ie, for each entry in the "Ship Name and Designation History" section). Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

USS DONALD W. WOLF received the following awards during her Naval career - China Service Medal - American Campaign Medal - Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal - World War II Victory Medal - Navy Occupation Service Medal (with Asia clasp)

NAMESAKE - Sergeant Donald William Wolf, USMC (February 7 1919 - October 9 1942)
Wolf, born February 7, 1919 in Hart, Michigan, enlisted in the Marine Corps December 5, 1939. He was killed in action during the Battle of Guadalcanal at the second battle of Mantanikau. He shared in the Presidential Unit Citation awarded the 1st Marine Division and was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for leading his platoon in hand-to-hand combat against an overwhelming enemy attacking force.
