This section lists the names and designations that the ship had during its lifetime. The list is in chronological order.

    Transferred to Greece January 23 1971 and renamed
    Struck from Naval Register and sold to Greece February 8 1980 Decommissioned by the Greek Navy in February 2000

    Sold for scrap in November 2001

Naval Covers

Postmarks

This section lists examples of the postmarks used by the ship. There should be a separate set of postmarks for each name and/or commissioning period. Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

Other Information

FORT MANDAN received the following awards during her US Navy career - Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation - American Campaign Medal - World War II Victory Medal - Navy Occupation Service Medal (with Europe clasp) - National Defense Service Medal.

NAMESAKE - Fort Mandan was the settlement established by Lewis and Clark in 1804-05 in the vicinity of the Missouri River in North Dakota, the home of the Mandan Indian tribe.
