Within each set, the postmarks should be listed in order of their classification type. If more than one postmark has the same classification, then they should be further sorted by date of earliest known usage.

A postmark should not be included unless accompanied by a close-up image and/or an image of a cover showing that postmark. Date ranges MUST be based ONLY ON COVERS IN THE MUSEUM and are expected to change as more covers are added.

From Aug 2 to Sept 19 1944, USS Daniel A Joy served in the European Theater (FPO New York NY). Leaving the US on Oct 1 1944, she sailed for the Pacific Theater arriving at Humboldt Bay Indonesia on Nov 20 1944.

NAMESAKE - Daniel Albert Joy USNR (October 11 1918 - October 5 1942)
Joy enlisted in the Naval Reserve February 8 1937. For his heroism and courage in braving Japanese fire to remove the wounded to safety on Guadalcanal until killed by enemy gunfire on October 5 1942, Pharmacist's Mate Second Class Joy was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross
