In addition to the XML file, each cover has two to three JPG files representing the front, thumbnail, and possibly back image (a back image is not generated unless there is something reasonably interesting present). The scanned images displayed in the Museum web site are made at relatively low resolution in order to reduce file sizes and download times.
High resolution images are also created for the front and back of many covers. Included with these images are a ruler and a standardized color calibration strip from the Pantone (®) Digital Color Guide. These images are intended for detailed preservation and scholarship work and are not available for download via the web (too many megabytes). At some future date, the Museum may make all images available on a CD / DVD disk.
Supporting information associated with each cover is also provided via several additional XML documents.
