Museum News Year 2001
November 23, 2001
Added 83 more covers to bring the Collection up to 633. Additions
are mostly U.S.S. Pennsylvania (BB-38) from 1934 and U.S.S. Cuttlefish
(SS-171).
The Museum is very pleased to welcome Steve Shay as a new contributor.
Steve has two covers in this batch: USS Bridge AF-1 and USS Lea DD-118.
The next update will be devoted to adding Steve's exhibit of
"Mare Island Built Submarines"
which won a Multi-frame competition Gold medal and the Reserve Grand
award at the 2001 USCS Annual Convention.
Look for this update in late December.
Special thanks to Jim Davenport for contributing the U.S.S. Cuttlefish
covers.
September 5, 2001
Added 73 more covers to bring the Collection up to 550. Additions
are mostly U.S.S. Pennsylvania (BB-38) from 1916 through 1933.
August 1, 2001
Added 84 more covers to bring the Collection up to 477. Additions
are mostly U.S.S. Honolulu (CL-48) and U.S.S. Cuttlefish (SS-171).
Special thanks to Jim Davenport for contributing the U.S.S. Cuttlefish
covers.
June 27, 2001
Added 72 more covers to bring the Collection up to 393. Additions
are almost evenly split between U.S.S. Cuttlefish (SS-171),
U.S.S. Arizona (BB-39), U.S.S. Saratoga (CV-3), U.S.S. Wasp (CV-7),
and U.S.S. Yorktown (CV-5).
Special thanks to Jim Davenport for contributing the U.S.S. Cuttlefish
covers.
Enhanced the Sponsor / Director / Artist (SDA) indexes to include the
U.S.C.S., A.N.C.S., and R.C.D. member numbers of each person. Previously,
a given member number was only listed if it actually appeared on the
cover.
April 22, 2001
Added 64 more covers to bring the Collection up to 321. Almost
all the new covers are related to the U.S.S. Cuttlefish (SS-171)
and come from the collection of Jim Davenport. This batch also
includes several covers related to U.S.S. Ranger (CV-4).
Added an "Other Items" section to the Main Gallery that
contains three new indices:
- Other Items Related to a Ship
- Other Items Not Related to a Ship
- Cover Contents
The items referenced via these indices are not covers. They
are other items related to ships (such as Visitor Guides),
items not related to a ship but still related to naval covers,
naval cover creation or collection, or other naval matters
(such as a membership card for a naval cover collector), and
letters or other items found inside a cover.
Added a new Curator Letter marking our six month
anniversary and changed the Featured Cover (found in the
upper left corner).
March 22, 2001
The Museum is very pleased to welcome two new contributors:
Jim Davenport and Ford Ross.
Jim contributed several covers related to U.S.S. Relief (AH-1)
and U.S.S. Cuttlefish (SS-171). Ford contributed several
covers related to U.S.S. Macon (ZRS-5).
Added 46 more covers to bring the Collection up to 257.
This batch also included covers related to U.S.S. Hornet (CV-8),
U.S.S. Langley (CV-1) and U.S.S. Lexington (CV-2).
March 5, 2001
Added 33 more covers to bring the Collection up to 211.
This batch primarily consists of covers related to
U.S.S. Enterprise CV-6.
February 16, 2001
Added 78 more covers to bring the Collection up to 178.
This batch includes a much wider variety of ships (from gunboats
to large carriers) and cancel dates (1909 to 1996). There isn't
much depth for any given ship yet (usually only one or two covers)
but it's a start.
This last batch took a little longer than I wanted. I'll try
a smaller batch next time in the hope that I can get content out faster.
January 7, 2001
Completed the Search function. Now that all functions are done,
we will start adding more covers to the Collection.
January 1, 2001
- Added 57 more covers to bring the Collection up to 100.
- Completed all indices (total of 16).
- Changed the Featured Cover (found in the upper left corner).
Only the Search function is still unavailable. It is mostly
complete but needs a bit more shakedown testing before it is
turned on. Look for it in the next couple of weeks.
Once the Search function is completed, we will concentrate on
adding covers to the Collection.
We are hoping to add approximately 75 to 100 covers a month.
We'll see.
